Established in 1949 as a not-for-profit college in Arizona for educating local Baptists, Grand Canyon University got upgraded from the college status to the University status in 1989. Due to the financial hardship period by 2003, the University was sold to California-based Significant Education, LLC in January of 2004 and the University became the first for-profit Christian educational institute. Today, this University offers a variety of online and onsite bachelor�s and master�s degree programs and has been consistently acquiring the label of a Best Buy in US News and World Report and comes in the fourth tier in the current ranking.
